GOLDEN ACORN OVERDRIVE SPECIAL
$154.99Reference price
An overdrive designed by BJF around the sound of Dumble, the legend of custom-made amps. It was developed from his experience playing many of these amps, known by names such as Overdrive Special, through repair work. It brings the highly responsive, low-mid-centered tone known as the Dumble style into a compact pedal.
An AIAB capturing the traits shared by Dumble amps
Because Dumble amps were fully custom-built and each one sounds different, BJF, who has handled many of them through repair work, holds that there is no single inherent Dumble sound. On that premise, the pedal was designed around dynamic range as the trait every unit has in common.
Dynamic range controlled by touch
Picking dynamics alone carry it from a transparent clean to heavy drive. Even driven hard by a strong attack it does not drown out other notes, keeping chords separated and evenly balanced, so the sound stays clear across the wide gain range.
A structure shared with blackface-style pedals
Since many Dumble amps were built on vintage Fender amps, this pedal is likewise built with a structure close to the Sonic Blue Twanger, a blackface-style AIAB. The primary gain control is the RATIO knob, with around 11 o'clock for humbuckers and 12 to 1 o'clock for single coils as the starting point for shaping the sound.

- Wide dynamic range shifting from clean to heavy gain with touch
- Clear drive that keeps chord notes separated
- Structure close to the blackface-style Sonic Blue Twanger
- Mini machined-aluminum enclosure with room for a battery
