The staple overdrive STRAWBERRY RED OVER DRIVE, tuned by BJF toward a more aggressive drive sound. Rather than simply raising the gain, the approach lowers the signal level needed to produce distortion and compression, making heavy drive easier to reach without sacrificing response.
Tuning that lowers the onset of distortion
With responsiveness intact, lowering the signal level at which distortion begins makes strong drive easy to achieve. The treble character was revoiced to match the stronger distortion, and the low end gained impact. It can move from clean backing straight into a smooth lead tone.
