Maxon
OSD9 Overdrive Soft Distortion
$169Reference price
An overdrive/soft distortion inheriting the character of the OD880, the pedal that built Maxon's reputation for drive sounds between 1977 and 1980. With simple two-knob control, it produces a warm, tube-like distortion that shifts smoothly with input level. Its drive circuit is a passive type distinct from the OD808/OD9 family and uses a UA741 op amp. It is well suited to booster-style use in front of a tube amp.
An overdrive/soft distortion with warm drive in the OD880 lineage
A model that carries on the OD880, the pedal that defined Maxon's early drive sound. Its simple two-knob layout focuses on soft, natural distortion.
Passive-type drive circuit
The drive circuit is a passive type distinct from the OD808/OD9 family. A low-noise UA741 op amp produces a warm, tube-like distortion that changes smoothly with input level.
Booster-style use and regulated power
The pedal shows its character when used booster-style into a tube amp. A built-in DC/DC converter runs the circuit at a regulated 9V DC whether powered by battery or AC adapter, preventing tonal degradation from voltage drop. It runs for over 34 hours on a 9V alkaline battery.
