KarDiaN
Serotonin 5th
KarDiaN's fifth-anniversary model. Built on Serotonin, which referenced the Tube Screamer, it reinterprets an Ibanez TS5 owned by Kitada. It carries a two-band tone stack the TS5 does not have and pushes the high-gain side of that pedal further. The Toshiba TA75558P used in the original sits at its centre, combined with ERO MKP1845 capacitors and an Isahaya 2SK2880. Limited to 150 units worldwide.
A fifth-anniversary model reinterpreting the Ibanez TS5 at extreme gain
Built around the Ibanez TS5 in a nod to the number five, marking KarDiaN's fifth anniversary. It takes Serotonin, which referenced the Tube Screamer, and reinterprets the character of the TS5.
Beyond the TS5's gain range
The high-gain Tube Screamer character of the TS5 is pushed further here. A two-band tone stack the TS5 lacks is fitted, and the pedal reaches gain settings well beyond either a standard TS5 or Serotonin.
The op-amp from the original
Securing 150 units of the Toshiba TA75558P fitted to the original TS5 was the starting point for the build. The grain this op-amp shows as gain rises, close to a fuzz, is what produces the TS5 character.
Components for the extra gain
ERO MKP1845 capacitors from Ernst Roederstein help reach those higher gain settings, holding back unnecessary lows and highs while keeping a solid core. An Isahaya 2SK2880 transistor in the buffer adds a sustaining quality to the midrange, and the power supply electrolytic was changed to a 100uF KEMET A750 to manage noise at high gain.
A gunmetal black finish
A metallic gunmetal black forms the base colour, giving a texture distinct from ordinary black paint. Cyber green is used consistently on the LED and knobs, and each unit carries a serial number.
