Crotonin
An overdrive productised from a circuit variant that emerged during Serotonin's development. LED clipping replaces silicon diodes and is paired with a fast-responding op-amp. The response to picking dynamics stays open, and the distortion is shaped not only by the LEDs but by the op-amp's own breakup and the character of the coupling capacitors. It sits opposite Serotonin, which is built around midrange and compression.
An open-voiced overdrive born from a discarded circuit, the counterpart to Serotonin
A production version of one of the irregular prototypes that appeared while Serotonin was being developed. It is a sibling from the same designer, voiced in the opposite direction.
Open breakup from LED clipping
Serotonin's development ran through a range of circuit variants: swapping the silicon clipping diodes for LEDs, adjusting the tone circuit, changing op-amp gain, and reselecting components. This pedal came out of the branch combining LED clipping with a fast-responding op-amp. The clipping point stays open, so picking dynamics translate directly into how the pedal breaks up.
Three elements shaping the distortion
The distortion is not defined by LED clipping alone. The op-amp's own breakup and the tonal shift contributed by the coupling capacitors combine to form the overall texture.
A finish in the blackest paint
The enclosure uses a paint described as the blackest in the world. The silk printing and rust pattern are laid over it in ordinary matte black, yet rather than sinking into the finish they appear to rise out of it.
