Chloroform UG
An overdrive that takes the flagship Chloroform and rebuilds its circuit entirely for high gain, replacing the silicon clipping diodes with transistors. It began with players running Chloroform with the gain maxed and with requests to modify it for more. Raising the gain was found to make the region from the highs into the harmonics break up unpredictably, rather than closing in through compression as usual, and the design was pushed in that direction.
An ultra-gain Chloroform that grew out of how players were using it
A high-gain rework of Chloroform, a pedal originally voiced for the transparent breakup suggested by weathered stained glass. The starting point was a way of using it the designer had not anticipated.
Players running the gain at maximum
Chloroform was developed around the interest of low-gain use, but players began running it with the gain permanently maxed, and requests arrived to modify it for still more. As those requests accumulated, the high-gain potential of the circuit was examined properly.
What happened at high gain
That examination found that raising the gain made the region from the highs into the harmonic content break up unpredictably. Where more gain normally means stronger compression and a more closed sound, the change ran the other way. This behaviour became the basis for the product.
Transistor clipping
The circuit was rebuilt entirely as a high-gain design. Transistors replace silicon diodes in the clipping stage, changing the way the pedal breaks up into something more complex.
