KarDiaN
Chloroform "Kyomurasaki Ver."
A collaboration model marking Watanabe Gakki's 75th anniversary. It digs into Chloroform's behaviour as a booster, voiced deliberately toward the aggressive and trebly rather than the clean. The design references the DALLAS RANGEMASTER without using germanium devices. The crackling saturation and the texture of the amplifying device itself breaking up, which clipping devices alone cannot produce, are rebuilt through circuit and component choices.
A Chloroform collaboration voiced toward boost with reference to the RANGEMASTER
Built by KarDiaN for the 75th anniversary of Watanabe Gakki, based in Kyoto. Many artists were already using Chloroform as a booster, and the specification follows that use.
Voiced as an aggressive booster
Because so many players of the standard Chloroform used it as a booster, that aspect became the focus. Rather than a clean booster, it was pushed toward a trebly, aggressive voicing.
Rebuilding the DALLAS RANGEMASTER
The reference was a DALLAS RANGEMASTER owned by Kitada of KarDiaN. Germanium was not used as the device; instead the crackling, saturated boost of the RANGEMASTER and the texture of the amplifying device itself breaking up were rebuilt through circuit design and components. The result reads as a booster and a fuzz at once.
Components chosen for the top end
The first-stage coupling capacitor value was lowered substantially, focusing the top end while letting the pedal break up sharply. Polystyrene capacitors were chosen for their high-frequency behaviour, and IRC metal film resistors sit in series, pushing the voicing toward the metallic and aggressive at component level.
A kyomurasaki finish
In keeping with Watanabe Gakki's base in Kyoto, the finish is built on kyomurasaki purple. Brown and yellow rust are joined by mossy green discolouration, all applied by brush.
