A clean booster designed by BJF from the ground up. Low noise was pursued from the circuit design stage, achieving a signal-to-noise ratio on par with high-end tube audio amplifiers. The machined-aluminum mini enclosure shields against external noise, and switching noise is reduced by a dedicated filter circuit. It works with guitar, bass, and any surrounding gear, and can house a battery.
A thoroughly low-noise clean booster newly designed by BJF
Starting from the premise that a booster amplifying the input signal amplifies noise along with it, the pedal was developed with noise elimination as its concept from the circuit design stage. BJF's all-new circuit sits in a machined-aluminum enclosure that shields against external noise.
S/N ratio on par with tube audio amplifiers
In addition to the new circuit, the switching noise that comes with true bypass is reduced by a dedicated filter circuit. The result is a signal-to-noise ratio matching high-end tube audio amplifiers.
A boost set at a sufficient +16dB
The maximum boost was set at about +16dB after repeated testing. It is ample both for pushing amps or drive pedals and for raising the volume of an already distorted sound, and since turning Level all the way down mutes the output, level-cut and unity gain settings are also possible.
Frequency response matched to output level
Because amplifying the input as-is leaves an unnatural quality caused by the difference in output level, the boost circuit shapes a frequency response matched to the output level along the way. The sound can be boosted without hardening it or narrowing the dynamic range.
I/O design that suits any gear
The 500k-ohm input impedance takes guitar or bass directly, passive or active, and the output is kept to 2k ohms or less, fitting both effect inputs and the return of an amp's effects loop. It can sit in a high-gain amp's loop to raise volume while keeping the preamp's distortion intact.
