A special edition recreating the MXR Distortion+ favored by Randy Rhoads. MXR's development team examined the actual unit found on his pedalboard, unveiled by his family after 42 years, and recreated the sound of the era with the cooperation of his sister Kathy Rhoads. The enclosure wears a custom finish inspired by the Flying V Randy played. With DISTORTION set low and OUTPUT set high, it also works as a booster that pushes an amp's gain.
Randy Rhoads' Distortion+, revived from the original unit
A special edition recreating the MXR Distortion+ that Randy Rhoads relied on throughout his life, dedicated to the guitarist. It was the pedal at the core of the sound of a player whose classically rooted phrasing and heavy tone earned him a place in rock guitar history.
Examining the original unit, unveiled after 42 years
The pedalboard unveiled by Randy's family after 42 years still held the Distortion+ he used in his playing days, and MXR's development team examined it in detail. With the cooperation of his sister Kathy Rhoads, the sound of the era was brought back.
A finish evoking the Flying V
The enclosure wears a custom finish inspired by the Flying V Randy was known for playing, a design that recalls the album jacket showing him with the guitar.
Distortion straight from the Distortion+
The controls are just OUTPUT and DISTORTION. It covers everything from soft, amp-like overdrive to raw, fuzz-like tones, and with DISTORTION rolled back and OUTPUT raised it also works as a booster that pushes an amp's gain.
