Volume Pedal KND-LOW
A low-impedance volume pedal built into an ERNIE BALL chassis, designed so that the rise from zero and the change near maximum can both be handled linearly. CURVE CONTROL on the front adjusts the volume curve itself: fully counter-clockwise gives a fast rise, fully clockwise a gradual one. Amtrans AMRG resistors and a Tokyo Cosmos audio-grade potentiometer are used.
A low-impedance volume pedal with an adjustable volume curve
A volume pedal developed around the idea of using the change in level itself as a musical gesture rather than simply setting volume. It uses an ERNIE BALL chassis and took two years to reach production.
CURVE CONTROL
The central control, altering how volume rises from heel to toe. Fully counter-clockwise gives a fast rise and fully clockwise a gradual one, letting the feel under the foot be matched to the player. The adjustment operates within the low-impedance range.
Components in the signal path
Non-magnetic Amtrans AMRG resistors avoid magnetic distortion. The potentiometer is a Tokyo Cosmos high-end audio type, moulded so that its condition holds up on outdoor stages. The PCB is matte black with a trace width specified for this pedal.
A 41-step detent
The pot controlling the curve uses a multi-step detent of the kind found in high-end audio equipment. Its 41 clicks allow fine settings and prevent the position drifting during a performance.
