Croissant Distortion
A distortion aimed at the sound of an amp with its gain turned up. Its voicing adds an edge to a thick, sustaining overdrive-like texture, and it is intended to be paired with a clean amp. Up to around noon, GAIN sharpens the edge of the tone; past that point it brings weight to the low end. The pedal also responds to the guitar's volume control.
An amp-like distortion meant to be paired with a clean amp
A pedal aimed not at sharp, pointed distortion but at the sound of an amp with its gain raised. Its character comes through when it is combined with a clean amp.
Character of the distortion
It adds an edge to a texture close to a thick, sustaining overdrive. Depth and weight are available even from single coils, and the TONE control has a wide range.
How GAIN behaves
Up to around noon the control sharpens the edge of the tone; beyond that it adds weight to the low end. The quality of the distortion can be matched to the character of the amp in use.
Response to the guitar
The pedal responds well to the guitar's volume control, so the amount of distortion can be moved without touching it.
