A drive pedal co-developed by BOSS and US-based JHS Pedals to mark the 40th anniversary of the compact pedal in 2017. It houses two circuits based on the BD-2 Blues Driver and the Angry Charlie in a single unit. Three dual-concentric knobs adjust each circuit's drive, tone, and level independently, and six modes allow standalone use or series and parallel connection.
A collaborative drive that commands the BD-2 and Angry Charlie in one pedal
A model co-developed by BOSS and JHS Pedals to mark the 40th anniversary of the compact pedal in 2017. It carries two circuits based on the BD-2 Blues Driver and the Angry Charlie, designed around the idea of combining their individual personalities.
Independent control through dual-concentric knobs
The three DRIVE, TONE, and LEVEL knobs are dual-concentric, allowing the BD-2-style and Angry Charlie-style sounds to be adjusted separately. A multicolor LED shows the operating state: blue for BOSS, red for JHS, and purple when both are active.
Six connection modes
It provides six modes: each circuit on its own or toggled, JHS-into-BOSS and BOSS-into-JHS series, and parallel. In series, one circuit can serve as a booster for the other; in parallel, two picking-responsive characters blend together. Connecting an optional footswitch to the REMOTE jack puts on/off and mode switching at your feet.
How the pairing was decided
The two companies used an ES-8 to test the connection methods and ordering of many pedals, arriving at a configuration that adds the BD-2's expressiveness to the Angry Charlie, a character absent from the BOSS lineup. JHS Pedals is the brand founded by Josh Scott, who started building pedals after repairing a BD-2.
