One Control
CRIMSON RED BASS PREAMP
$144.99Reference price
A bass preamp pedal from One Control. Its tiny machined-aluminum enclosure carries a simple layout of just three knobs plus input and output. Running counter to the trend of ever more versatile bass preamps, it narrows its sound to a single fat, warm tone reminiscent of an upright or double bass. It exists to give an electric bass that texture.
A preamp that gives an electric bass an upright bass voice
In contrast to multifunction preamps that handle a wide range of sounds and routing in one unit, this bass preamp narrows its output to a single sound: the fat, warm tone of an upright bass. The tiny machined-aluminum enclosure carries just three knobs and an input and output.
The double bass tone of classic records
It targets the upright bass sound heard on recordings made before the Precision Bass appeared: a low end that seems to resonate through your core, singing low mids, and warm high mids without glare. This is territory hard to reach by simply EQing an electric bass's bright tone.
Shaping with GAIN and BRILLIANCE
GAIN governs the overall thickness and warmth of the sound, working like changing string gauge, adjusting from cool jazz tones to hot rockabilly tones without adding distortion. BRILLIANCE changes the overall brightness, but the warm upright bass character remains at any setting.
A sound meant to be heard at a distance
Because bright treble is converted into a smooth tone, the range can feel narrow right next to the speaker. Step back a little and its presence and response cutting through an ensemble become clear; the dynamic range is wide, and it also works as a preamp for electric violin.
- Dedicated to the fat, warm tone of an upright bass
- GAIN shapes the thickness and BRILLIANCE sets the brightness
- Covers jazz to rockabilly without distortion
- Also usable as a preamp for electric violin
- Mini machined-aluminum enclosure with room for a battery
