ROCKMAN® X100™ ANALOG TONE PROCESSOR
$245.99Reference price
A pedal recreation of the Rockman X100, designed in the 1980s by Boston guitarist Tom Scholz, who holds a doctorate in engineering. The original X100 was a portable amp simulator and headphone amp from Scholz Research & Development (SR&D), known for its distinctive drive sound and chorus and valued as a recording tool. This unit was developed with the help of MXR engineer Bob Cedro, an SR&D alumnus, and carries four presets — CLN1, CLN2, Edge, and Distortion — in a fully analog circuit. The chorus uses an MN3007 BBD chip to recreate the ROCKMAN's distinctive chorus sound.
The 80s ROCKMAN X100 sound recreated in full analog
The original Rockman X100 was a portable amp simulator and headphone amp designed at Scholz Research & Development by Boston guitarist Tom Scholz, who holds a doctorate in engineering, and it earned high regard as a recording tool. This unit recreates that sound as a fully analog pedal, developed with the help of MXR engineer Bob Cedro, an SR&D alumnus.
A compression circuit that adapts to each mode
At the heart of the X100 sound is a dedicated compression circuit that keeps notes clear whether clean or distorted. This unit carries a circuit built to the same design as the original, running the compression with a slow release in the clean modes and a fast release in distortion.
Four presets with distinct characters
The MODE button switches between CLN1, CLN2, Edge, and Distortion. CLN1 is a punchy, midrange-focused clean, CLN2 a transparent clean, Edge a crunch with moderate clipping that responds sensitively to picking and input gain, and Distortion a sustaining, lead-oriented drive.
Slider-style VOLUME and INPUT GAIN
Following the original's slider controls, INPUT GAIN sets the gain for all four modes. In the Edge mode especially, the input level setting shapes a wide range of sounds from crunch to distortion.
MN3007 chorus and external control
The chorus uses the classic MN3007 BBD chip, adding spacious chorus with nothing more than the Chorus button. An internal switch selects mono or stereo output, and connecting an external tap switch lets you change modes by foot.
