KarDiaN
Vitamin C "Army Green Ver."
KarDiaN's fourth-anniversary model. Built on Vitamin C, it references a vintage Green Russian Muff of the early tall font type owned by Kitada. Aiming at the musical high-frequency rolloff heard in that unit, the clipping stage uses a 1N5232 zener diode rather than the 1N914 usual to the Green Russian Muff. Vintage Tropical Fish coupling capacitors and a Wurth Elektronik WCAP-PTG5 in the power section are also fitted. Limited to 100 units worldwide.
A fourth-anniversary model referencing an early Green Russian Muff
Part of the lineage of KarDiaN's Custom Build Series, known as the rust pedals, which combine a rebuilt vintage presence with controls suited to working conditions. Built on Vitamin C with reference to a Green Russian Muff tall font owned by Kitada.
A deliberate high-frequency rolloff
Analysing the tall font unit brought out a high-frequency rolloff that worked musically. It was understood as a contrast to the full-range behaviour of modern equipment, and rolling the top end off lets the low content the Green Russian Muff is known for come forward by comparison. The Treble side of KarDiaN's two-band EQ allows the remaining top end to be adjusted for clarity.
Zener diode clipping
The clipping stage uses a 1N5232 zener diode rather than the 1N914 normally found in a Green Russian Muff. Working with the zener voltage characteristic reproduces the fuzz distortion of the tall font. The behaviour of the Fuzz control was also changed at circuit level so that it moves more smoothly at lower gain.
Power section and coupling capacitors
The power section moves from a Panasonic OS-CON to a Wurth Elektronik WCAP-PTG5. Vintage Tropical Fish capacitors serve as the coupling capacitors, producing a masking of the top end that filtering alone cannot achieve. The available stock of those capacitors set the production run.
