A fuzz pedal in the Waza Craft series. It is BOSS's own refined take on fuzz, a circuit that appeared in the 1960s and spawned many variants, explored in depth in-house. With silicon transistors at its core for stable operation, it delivers the sparkling sound and rich sustain characteristic of vintage fuzz. A mode switch changes its character, and the tone also shifts with the guitar's volume control.
A Waza Craft fuzz that explores and redefines vintage fuzz
An original fuzz that BOSS designed after analyzing a range of vintage fuzzes, prompted by the TB-2W Tone Bender joint project with Sola Sound. As a tribute to vintage fuzz, its model number carries the numeral 1, reserved for special models.
Stability through silicon transistors
The iconic sounds and singing sustain of vintage fuzz are only available from a limited number of units in good condition. The FZ-1W adopts silicon transistors at its core, keeping the hard-to-control bias and noise in check while reliably delivering a high-gain fuzz sound.
The sparkling vintage mode
The vintage mode is built around a sparkling high-gain fuzz and singing sustain. Rolling back the guitar's volume shifts the sound smoothly from a chiming, enhanced crunch to a light clean tone. The TONE knob is designed for fine adjustment that keeps the mode's character intact.
The thick, low-mid-rich modern mode
The modern mode produces a dark, thick fuzz sound with firm low mids. Switching modes also changes how the TONE knob responds, letting you brighten the tone while keeping the low-mid character. Used as a booster, the guitar's volume control moves the sound between fat leads and flat crunch.
